Denver: Urban Indian Experience trip
Trip Leaders: Autumn White Eyes '14, Gregory Buzzard '13, JesAnne Tageson-Ramirez '13
Modern Native American life doesn't much resemble society's image of them as horse-riding reservation dwellers. Today, more than half of all Native peoples live in urban areas where they face a unique set of social and economic challenges. These Urban Indians are the creators of a new type of Indian culture, one based on their deep connections to home communities and cultures, but also mixed with their experiences in some of America's largest cities. This trip will explore Urban Indian life in Denver, Colorado, home to a 25,000 strong Native American community and the many organizations serving that community. Service projects will bring Dartmouth students in contact with Denver's Native community through work on diverse issues including cultural enrichment, Indian healthcare, access to housing, and education.
DEADLINE TO APPLY IS OCTOBER 3RD.

For those who are interested in taking the MCAT:
Many Nathan Smith Society members have been or will be thinking about when to take the MCAT examination, as it will transition to a new exam in 2015. The switch-over will actually begin in March 2015 (so that the January 2015 exam administration will be the current format). The American Association of Medical Colleges has just released a preview guide for the 2015 exam as a .pdf and also a PP set comparing contrasting the present exam and the changes in 2015. One thing to note about the present exam is that the Writing Sample has already been eliminated for the 2013 exam and will no longer be included on either of these formats. These documents are enclosed and have also been posted on the NSS web site ('MCAT Basics for Students' image in middle of page) and on the companion NSS Blackboard site).
If you are beginning to think about which exam to take and how you might adjust your course plans and prep time for either, please don't hesitate to use our walk-in advising hours.
